Ndis specialist disability accommodation

What is Specialist Disability Accommodation?

Specialist Disability Accommodation refers to housing designed specifically for people with complex disabilities or who require extensive support. The accommodations have characteristics that promote independent living and enable the provision of safer and more effective support. SDA housing is a critical component of the NDIS, ensuring that participants have access to housing that suits their unique requirements. It signifies a shift towards more inclusive and personalised housing alternatives, with the goal of improving people' quality of life.

Individuals qualified for SDA under their NDIS plan, while having appropriate home changes and/or assistive technologies, nevertheless require significant in-home help from professional Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers such as Phomecare.

Specialist Disability Accommodation is a physical home that has been approved by the National Disability Insurance Agency.

Eligibility for SDA housing.

To qualify for SDA, a participant must meet the NDIS's financial criteria. Our Phomecare Participant Engagement Department assists families with their NDIS experience, working to achieve the best outcome for their loved one while meeting the standards for SDA or alternative NDIS accommodation in Perth.

To be eligible for SDA housing under the NDIS, individuals must have an extreme functional impairment or significant support needs, as well as meet certain SDA requirements and NDIS funding criteria.

Not all NDIS participants will be eligible for SDA. The goal is to cater to a small number of participants who have considerable demands.

Key Features of SDA:
• SDA houses include unique characteristics such as bigger doorways for wheelchair access, adapted bathrooms, and specialised technology to improve environmental functionality.
• Enhanced safety elements may be included in these homes to meet particular needs. This can include everything from emergency sirens to reinforced structures designed to support all individuals.
• Location:  SDA housing is situated in places with convenient access to community amenities, healthcare services, and public transportation, allowing residents to actively participate in their community.
